Rhinocort (Budesonide)

General information

Rhinocort is a medication that belongs to class of corticosteroids. It is prescribed for prevention and release of hayfever. Its active ingredient is budesonide. Rhinocort treats and controls the range of hayfever symptoms (sneezing, runny nose, itching, eye symptoms and nasal blockage).

Directions

To prevent hayfever symptoms you should start your treatment with Rhinocort 1-2 weeks before you are exposed to allergens. Consult with your doctor about exact dosage. Generally, it is recommended to use Rhinocort one or two times per day - it should be 4 sprays into each nostril daily, so you can take this dose all in the morning, or you can separate it into 2 sprays in each nostril in the morning and evening. After you'll feel that your condition became better you should change your dosage: 1-2 sprays in each nostril in the morning. Consult with your doctor if after the 7th day of the treatment your condition will not change.

Precautions

You must consult with your doctor before starting treatment with Rhinocort and discuss all details of your allergies and diseases and possible reaction to this medicine, especially if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or breastfeeding, if you are taking any medicines prescribed and not prescribed, herbal products or dietary supplement, if you have nasal, sinus or chest infection, recent injury or surgery to your nose, open sores in your nose, severe nasal congestion or obstruction, tuberculosis (TB).

Contraindications

Do not use Rhinocort if you have allergy to any of its components, if you use mifepristone.

Possible side effects

Possible side effects are the following: headache dizziness, tiredness, sneezing after spraying or irritated nose, nose bleeds, nasal crust, dry nose or mouth, itching or sore throat, cough,increased amount of sputum. You should call for medical help immediately, if you feel some symptoms of more serious side effects, such as: swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue or throat which may cause difficulty in swallowing or breathing, severe rash, an ulcer (open wound) in your nose, sign or symptoms of a nasal or sinus infection such as fever, pain or swelling, or discolored nasal discharges.

Drug interaction

You must consult with your doctor about interaction between Rhinocort and the other drugs, especially with other corticosteroid medicines, such as tablets, asthma inhalers, nasal sprays, or eye/nose drops; medicines used to treat fungal infections (eg ketoconazole, itraconazole); cimetidine, a medicine used to treat reflux and stomach ulcers; some antibiotic medicines (including erythromycin, clarithromycin).

Missed dose

Never take more than prescribed dose, even if you missed the one. Try to take it as soon as possible. Or, if it's too late, just skip it and take your usually dose next day in the same regularly time.

Overdose

In case if you think that you could be overdosed by Rhinocort you should call for medical help immediately. Symptoms of Rhinocort overdose are following: body discomfort; depression; difficulty breathing; dizziness; exhaustion; fainting; joint pain; loss of appetite; muscle aches; nausea. Seek medical urgent help if you experience one of them.

Storage

Store at room temperature between 68-77 F (20-25 C), in a dark and dry place. After opening the aluminum pouch, use Rhinocort within 6 months.
